In Ukraine, as in the world, on May 8 and 9, the Days of Remembrance and Reconciliation are celebrated, dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Second World War.
These days are dedicated to the memory of those more than 80 million people whose lives were cut short by global violence, people of all races and nations, men and women, soldiers and civilians, young children and the elderly – all those who died and all those who survived and went through all the circles of hell in World War II. Those who died on its fronts, in the trenches, and those who died during the bombing, were in captivity, concentration camps or went missing.
Days of Remembrance and Reconciliation were proclaimed by the decision of the 59th session of the UN General Assembly on November 24, 2004.
